One day, engrossed in the music, overwhelmed by the song and almost sitting on cloud 11, I asked my mother, "Mummy, have you ever listened to Metallica?"
While dusting the furniture, she asked casually, "No, What's that? A musical instrument?"
I almost fell from the Sofa.
I recovered and told her, "Nahi Mummy, Its a band, Rock band. Have you ever listened to the Song- 'Nothing Else Matters'?"
She replied, " Nahi beta, Never"
"What? No? Try listening to it. It's awesome!"
"Nahi beta, its ok. You Listen"
I was adamant. "Oh come on mummy. Have You ever tried your ears at western music? Have you ever appreciated the difference between harmonica and a piano? Why don't you try it?"
She retorted, "Don't act like your father. What do you know? When I was your age, even I listened to English numbers. I was a great fan of Boney M, Abba and others. But after marriage who pursues those interests? Ask your friends, do their mothers hip-hop or rock around, with grey hair?"
I was adamant still. God, I would have made Sidhu proud.
I said, " Please mummy, listen to it na..."
Reluctantly she tucked one of the earphones in her ear and the other was was serving my labyrinth.
I don't understand why it happens but when you try to impose your favorite song on others, you start singing the song as if it will enhance the euphony.
I was no exception...
It was just the seond line when she said, "God!"
I looked at her smugly and continued singing, feeling content that she finally got the essence of that song.
But my smugness vanished in a flash when she said, "God!, Its already 2 and I haven't even prepared lunch! Your father must be on his way!"
She threw the earphone and ran to the kitchen.
I was speechless, I was feeling like a dumb.
I didn't know what to do? The song which was soothing my ears suddenly started mocking me.
Then I heard the noise of Stainless Steel Plates, Bronze Cups and Iron Kadhai being washed in the kitchen, and then I consoled myself thinking, "Koi nahi yaar, in her own way she's rocking and definitely in her own style, she's related to Metallica!!!"
